Support the
Chapter
The Iowa
Beta House Corporation is responsible for the Iowa Beta Chapter House and recently purchased property next door. Maintenance of a house
that is over 100 years old is a delightful challenge! (especially with
several additions onto it!) We work closely with the Active Chapter
House Manager and the President, in addition to the Housemother and the
Cook. We feel it is very important to provide comfortable, safe housing
for our collegiate members while keeping in mind our budget and the
future of Pi Beta Phi. We are proud to be the owners of such a valuable
and beautiful property. We purchased the house to the north of us two
years ago (also known as Mrs. Blade's Tea Room at one time). We rented
the house for two years and then had it demolished last fall due to its
very poor condition. At the present time, it serves as "green space" and
additional parking, keeping in mind its value to us so we are not
landlocked for the future. Our board members are looking into some ways
that our loyal alumnae can assist us with the financial aspects of
maintaining our historical home.
Last spring a memorial rose garden was established in memory of Cay
Culbertson by members of her pledge class. Additional money purchased
more bushes in memory of Mary Eleanor Shandley. This is a long-range
project and you are welcome to participate if you would like to
memorialize or commemorate a Pi Phi sister. We hope the investment into
this website will be of interest to you and we can communicate more
readily as we feel it is with pride that we maintain our beautiful Pi
Phi home. Thanks for your support,
Ardene Downing , HC President
